Berries, Fishing, Orchard, and Family

We have harvested raspberries and blackberries almost every other day for the past three weeks. We had blamed the plants for not producing. Maybe we should have realized that the birds had something to do with the lack of berries. The bird netting made a huge difference.

Below: While visiting one of the lakes in Louisiana, Bruce caught a 4 pound bass. Bruce also managed to catch a turtle. Both the bass and the turtle were back in the lake when we departed. The ‘professional’ fishermen (birds that catch fish) were also on the hunt. We saw a few cranes and a whistler while we were fishing.

There are several docks on the lake in Ferriday. A beaver has decided to make one of these docks his home. Each time we visit, the beaver has managed to pile more sticks on the dock. We have not seen this beaver swimming in the lake yet, but the owner has seen him swimming. Hope the beaver watches out for the alligators in the pond!

Below: Most of our fruit trees and grape vines are starting to flourish. However, one of the cherry trees appears to not like all the water from the recent rains. We have covered the grape vines with bird netting because the small grapes are disappearing. The new apple tree arrived with five apples. After the strong winds of the past weeks, we found the apples on the ground. (Preston had warned us that this tree would drop its apples when we replanted it, so he was correct- AGAIN). The pear tree still has pears which we have protected with white bags. All of the fig trees now have a few figs. Flip through the slideshow of the orchard below and see if you can identify the different fruit trees.
