The 3 day rain did help restore the Louisiana and Mississippi Lakes.

Let’s look back at the pictures from the drought conditions which persisted all summer and into the fall of 2023.

During Drought: September 20th , 2023

November 17th- Still in Drought By November 2023, we had some rain, but still considered in drought conditions- note the stumps of trees and the dock out of water. Also, note the bass beds are totally out of the water.

AFTER the 8 inches of rain: January 30, 2024- Louisiana

One can no longer walk to the islands because there is enough water to actually form islands again. Note: You can no longer see the tree stumps that were 4 feet out of the water in November, 2023. Because of this large land area draining into this lake, the 8 inch rain caused a very large volume of water to enter this lake. The water level increased about five feet due to this recent three days of rain.

One of the boats is gone. We will have to search lake with a metal detector because we are pretty sure it is at the bottom of the lake. The other boat was located across the lake and this boat was filled with water. Bruce bailed out the boat and returned it to its original location.

Below: The lake in Louisiana had a concrete overflow for large rains that cannot be managed by the under water pipes which work by siphon action. This overflow has been undermined over that last few years and the concrete finally gave way early last year. However, the valley formed by the water overflow continues to move towards the lake. The 8 inches of rain did wonders in restoring the water to the lake which had suffered from the long summer drought, but appears to have done more damage to this area.
