The eight inch (plus) rain dug a 6 foot hole in the hill back of our barn. If you look closely at the last picture below, you can see that the water went into the hill. We had to move to the bottom of the hill to find the exit hole. This hill is now hollow in areas and will cave in if someone steps in the wrong place. The repair will mean caving in the hollow spot and filling the hill from top to bottom with clay from another area of the farm.
This pipe (below) was completely covered with debris as the water attempted to drain from the goat yard.
(Below) Look at the high-water on the pond after the rain (indicated by the line of leaves). The legs of the fish feeder and the legs of the bench are still in the water despite the fact that the water has been draining from the pond for 24 hours. The water-tight ammo boxes (which contain scales and fishing gear) floated from under the bench and were recovered at the high water line.
BELOW: We took a hike to the creek which is the boundary of the property of the farm. We filmed the deep revines formed by run off of the rain. Most of these ravines were already started from previous rains, but all of these doubled or tripled in size due to this last rain.
When rushing water is slowed by a tree or a sand bar, the gravel and sand in the water tend to drop out of the water and remain. Note the high-water line indicated by the leaf debris and the newly deposited sand at the creek. The sand on “the beach” increased by almost ten feet.
