Snow has already fallen up north, and we are now winterizing in the South. Look at the pictures as we prepare the goat house for freezing weather and check out the trail camera pictures in this post. (Below, Gretchen is ready for a snow ball fight).

Back in Mississippi, it is time to prepare for the freeze. First we make sure the goats have access to food. We supplement the field grass with Alfalfa Orchard Grass. The goats obviously like the Alfalfa Orchard Grass because they act like they are starving (which they are NOT). Goats will not eat the hay once it hits the ground, but they will lick the bag and eat out of the tray below the hay cradle.

Next, we hang heating lamps in the goat barn. Temperature predictions for the next week are in the teens which is very cold for our area. We had to hang the heating lamps high because Fool thinks they are toys and tried knocking them together. We also cleaned the goat barn and put fresh pine shavings and baking soda on the floor.
The trail camera pictures below show that the wildlife around the farm is still active, although the animals tend to move less when the freezing weather actually hits. As you flip through the slides below, note the “visitor”. We saw the pictures of his eye first, and were pretty sure he was not a deer!
