Last Friday, we visited the Audubon Insectarium in New Orleans. The picture below is of honeypot ant or honey ants. This species has special workers who gorge with food to the point that their abdomens swell. The ant’s enlarged bulb is where the ant stores the honey. The honey is used to feed the hive in times of need. Most of these ants live in arid deserts and there are some species in the US.
The Insectarium also has a live exhibit of European honey bees which fly out of the hive and return. After the Insectarium, we had lunch at the Frostop (one of Ike’s favorites).
Meanwhile, Bruce was harvesting more bass for transport to the other lake. More pictures of the past weekend are below . On Sunday, we had an early Christmas with our New Orleans grandchildren (who will all be in other states by Christmas).
And the answer to the question is “YES”, she really did get Cheeze-ITS for Christmas. (She really likes them).
