Bass, Trail Cameras of Deer and Bear, EC gets a first, and Christmas is drawing near!

Yesterday, we transferred some of the bass stock to the Mississippi Pond. Seven bass were caught in the Louisiana Pond and placed in a live well and transported to the Mississippi Pond. The water was very cold and all fish survived the transfer.

Despite the cold weather, the deer showed up in full force on the trail cameras. The bear also made an appearance. We have never seen any of the bears in person, despite knowing they were on the cameras just before or just after we visited the same areas. Guess the bears can hear us coming.

We were finally able to plant the fields for the deer after the drought. The deer are mowing the fields as fast as the seeds sprout. In picture #3 below, you can see a round cage in the background. This is called an excluder device. It shows the length that the vegetation actually grew before the deer mowed it down. Note the difference in the height of the vegetation inside and outside of the excluder device.

Congrats to EC for taking first in the meet!!

Here comes Christmas!
