The lettuce is still going, but it is time to make way for corn. Lettuce was harvested, plants were uprooted (except for the garlic and cilantro and the bed was prepared for the corn.

Last year, the corn had shallow roots and some had trouble standing. This year, the internet gave us a new suggestion. Plant the corn in the valleys and push additional dirt to the roots from the hills as the corn grows to give the corn more support. We don’t know if this is a sound idea, but we are willing to try.

The corn planted this year is called Simply Irresistible (Sweet corn) as opposed to the crop planted last year which was Incredible (Sweet corn). We will keep you posted as it grows. Harvest should be in 78 days or around the 4th of July.

Two types of pumpkins have been planted. The first is a normal size pumpkin (hopefully for October)-Early Prince Hybrid, and the other is a giant pumpkin- Dill’s Atlantic Giant (to see if we can actually grow a really big pumpkin). Wish us luck!
