We were concerned that a bug was on our cherry trees. However, Preston used his handy phone app to teach us about Cherry Trees. Did you know that Cherry trees have glands? Cherry trees have conspicuous glands right below the base of the leaf. The size, color, and location of the glands can assist in the species identification.

Below: Trail camera shows turkeys, dancing deer, and a large bobcat. We also found turkey tracks on the beach.

Spring is here and the fishing in Louisiana Lakes is at its best. The largest bass on the last two trips was 4.85 pounds. The smallest bass was smaller than the bait. The two fishing trips produced total of 16 fish, but all were returned to the lake. For management purposes, bass smaller than 1.5 pounds should be removed. However, there are enough people fishing this lake who will remove the smaller bass and keep the lake in balance.
Previous Correction: Hairy buttercup, NOT Rapeseed. Hairy buttercup is an invasive weed which is poisonous. Rapeseed is an herb which may grow wild and first appeared in the USA in the 1800’s. Hairy buttercup is less than 12 inches high, but Rapeseed is approximately 3 feet high. At a distance, the plant identifier may confuse the two plants. However, a close-up of Hairy Buttercup consistently identifies this plant correctly.
