Fresh Frozen at the Farm and the Deer are enjoying every minute!

The temperature dipped well into the teens and frozen precipitate was everywhere, but the goats did fine with the heating lamps in their barn. The geraniums did not fare as well. (See before and after below). The water buckets for the goats froze solid, but the pond did not, so the goats still had access to water. The water buckets partially thawed during the day, and surprisingly, the goats liked the ice water.

The cold did not slow the wildlife on the trail cameras as expected. All of our furry friends were out in full force. Coyotes, dogs and lots of deer were on the fields. Note: The exclusion device (metal round fence in field in slide 6) shows how the deer have mowed the field that was planted in October. Jackie (St. Francisville, LA)noted that there is a scarcity of acorns this year.  Deer and other wildlife usually supplement their diets with acorns. We think this may be due to the summer drought.

The dogs in the pictures below do not belong to the farm. If there is a leash law in this part of Mississippi, it is totally ignored.

Some of the trail cameras record video. Note the color variation in the first two deer that appear at the Gap.
