We now know the culprit in the garden! Also, melons, new plants, saving seeds, cousins are pitted against each other, and a ‘once in a life time honor’.

The garden culprit was actually a deer who could jump in and out of a very small enclosure. We discovered the nightly visitor on the thermal binoculars. Next year, we will divide the garden in two, and that should resolve this problem.

Below: The largest honeydew melon weighted 8.4 pounds. It was large enough to fill a salad bowl with fruit. It also tastes delicious.

The pumpkin vines are fading (picture 1) as the garlic (pictures 2-3) and the lettuce (picture 4) are sprouting.

Below: Seeds for next crop: The bags are Zinnia dried seeds mixed with petals. These seeds will be saved for next spring. We are also planning on spreading these in the fields to see if the deer enjoy zinnia flowers as much as the goats enjoy them. The third picture is of cantaloupe seeds. The guts of the cantaloupe were placed in water for a day and stirred. After 24 hours, all floating seeds and fibers were discarded. The seeds that remained at the bottom of the jar were dried and stored for next year’s garden.

Cousins end up on opposing teams in flag football. In fact, Ike ends up actually guarding his cousin Pip. Obviously, it doesn’t affect their friendship.

BELOW; The Murthys have the once in a lifetime honor of laying a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldiers in DC.
