We collected the trail cameras cards to review the recent pictures. We think this is PAPA Bear (below) roaming the trails at 7:47 in the morning. We would prefer not to cross his path.
Mr. Bobcat is consistently seen on the same trail camera. It looks like the trail camera on Wagon Wheel took his picture early in the evening three days ago.
Look at the pictures of deer taken on Wagon Wheel. Note that in picture 2, the doe seems very pregnant. Then look at picture 4 taken 9 days later. This fawn is very young and is the first fawn we have seen on the cameras this summer.
Below: Our hog problem is still not resolved, but we are not seeing the large number of hogs that we have seen in previous years. We are hopeful that the large group has moved to other property.
Below: We heard the mother turkey calling her poults last week, but we have not seen any poults or females in person or on the trail cameras. These two turkeys (below) were the only turkey pictures we had from the trail cameras today.
Slideshow and Video below: This bird visiting our pond is a Cattle Egret which is a species of Herons. It is also known as a Western Cattle Egret. It is close to 2 feet tall and has a wingspan of about 3 feet. Watch it fly off in the video.
Although we have been successful with bluebirds around the farm house, we have not found any viable nests in the bluebird houses on the Big Field. Today, we seem to have found the reason. Look at the houses below. The first house is normal. The second and third houses have been attacked. We will have to retrofit these houses to protect them from predators like raccoons who climb the pole, open the houses, and eat the eggs. Normally a piece of PVC pipe around the pole below the bluebird house will discourage raccoons from climbing the polls.
