Kennan starts the 4th of July Week with a big catch off of Grand Isle.

The children returned to the corn field for another harvest. The variety of sweet corn is named “simple irresistible” and it is truly delicious. They also harvested more raspberries and blackberries and checked out the pumpkins which are still getting bigger. Pictures are below in a slideshow.
Of all the activities, art was the definite favorite. The aprons finally dried enough to wear and we had enough time for each camper to complete two paintings. The campers learned to trace a picture with carbon paper and then use the tracings to paint their pictures. We also painted ceramics as part of art class. Unfortunately, a sudden wind storm destroyed all of the ceramics that the campers had painted and left outside to dry. Flip through the slideshow below.
Oryne cut zinnias to take to the Carters. The boys also delivered some of the corn they harvested that morning. The boys fell in love with Bobby and Jackie’s dog. I am pretty sure it was mutual admiration between the boys and the dog.

The Knock Knock Children’s museum in Baton Rouge is always a favorite. Flip through the slideshow to join the fun.
Calder worked in a visit with Dr. Whitley and all was good. Dr. Whitley said “See you in a year”. Then we visited the WWII museum in New Orleans. The children found the bricks with their great grandfather’s names (Bruce Lovelace and Raleigh Ohlmeyer) and the names of the Ohlmeyer brothers. The four Ohlmeyer brothers served in each of the four branches. (Navy, Air Force, Army and Merchant Marines). Luckily, all four came home after WWII.

The last morning of Grandparent’s camp was spent at the New Orleans Children’s Museum. Check out the slideshow.
Because of the heat, we are installing a watering system at the farm. Tomorrow I will post pictures of the new watering system. Maybe this will keep us from losing the plants.
