The lettuce is beautiful and we will enjoy some of this lettuce tonight. We can either harvest the ouside leaves or just cut the top out of each lettuce plants. Either way, the leaves will grow back and we will have an abundant crop until the first hard freeze. You can also see a row of garlic by the fence and a row of carrots which will be ready in the spring.

We have been planing the lettuce about three weeks apart. On the left, you can see the newest sprouts of lettuce (if you look very closely). On the right, you see the rows of garlic, lettuce and carrots. The cilantro is the bushy plant in the back left of the second two pictures below. The smell of cilantro helps keep some insects away from the other plants in the garden. In picture 4, Einstein is eating the cilantro through the fence. Picture 5 is of the blackberry plants which seem to be growing well and Picture 6 is the raspberries which are also enjoying the cooler weather and rain..

The rye grass is sprouting and the goats are definitely enjoying the treat. Besides rye grass, we will stock hay to feed the goats until spring. The goats have now all received their yearly infection and received their worming meds. We look forward to a healthy batch of kids in about 12 weeks.
Below: Golden Rod is in the same family as sunflowers and there are over 100 different species of this plant. This plant grows almost anywhere and besides the bright yellow flowers, some people claim that the plant has medicinal properties.. The following pictures are of golden rod that has gone to seed. Look closely at the tops of these plants. The puffs at the end of the branches are the seeds that will disperse with the wind and become new gold rod plants in the future. Looking at all of these seeds! You can understand why this plant is so prolific.

Last weekend was a Brazilian Jujitsu tournament in New Orleans. Bruce IV and Bruce V (Quinn) did well in the competition. (Like Father, like son.) Congratulations to BIV and Quinn!
