Melons, Pond, and Family pictures

The first honeydew melons from our garden, along with some cantaloupe, were harvested today. The smaller cantaloupe was split and not mature. The larger cantaloupe will be cut this week.

The largest honeydew weighted 6.6 pounds and the larger cantaloupe weighted 2 pounds. The honeydew variety was a Sweet Reward Improved Hybrid (seeds from Gurney’s) and the cantaloupe was Anna’s Charentais Hybrid (also from Gurney’s seeds). The cantaloupe below in picture 3 is the smaller of the two and was still too green to consume. On the other hand, the honeydew was very sweet.

Below: Alligator Grass and floating Primrose Willow are mixed at the edge of the farm pond. The Alligator Grass is turning brown. The browning may be due to the cold snap or the fact that the goats have been eating the all of the vines that are close to the shore. The last picture is floating Primrose Willow.

Below: Look at the constant movement in the water below at the pond’s edge. This is a sign of a healthy pond. The movement is caused by numerous fathead minnows feeding in the grass.
