Watermelon, pumpkins, flowers, bluebirds, Red Fox, Frog legs, and Evergreen, CO

Amazing what a little water can do! Bruce watered this watermelon and saw a visible difference in size overnight.

All of the pumpkins below are the same variety (Dill’s Atlantic giant). They were harvested at different ages. The bright orange (below left weighting 55 pounds) had its leaves eaten by the goats, but was harvested when the little stem turned brown which is one indication of ripening. The picture on the right is the pumpkin that the goats decided to taste. It was harvested early. Note the lack of ridges and the lighter color. The bottom picture shows all three pumpkins together including the gravity-picked pumpkin on the left which harvested itself by rolling down the hill earlier in its growth cycle. Note the yellow color of the pumpkin bottom left. The middle pumpkin in the bottom picture is the same as top left (fully grown), and the pumpkin on the right (bottom picture) is the pumpkin with a goat bite. Note: Picking at different stages of growth (because of gravity, ripening, or goats) shows the different colors and sizes of the same pumpkin species. Hard to believe the differences based on time of harvest.

Slideshow Below: Mercedes’ zinnias are all blooming. Look at the beautiful flowers!

A beautiful Dalhia is on the left and a passion flower is on the right.

Below: Baby Bluebirds at 14 days. We finally found the birds with their eyes open. They still are not very active. Maybe it is the heat.

Slideshow Below: We returned to our cabin to find this red fox sitting at the back door on this box. He obviously knows his way around and was in no hurry to leave. In fact, when Quinn tried to film the fox, he turned around and came back to Quinn. Someone who stayed here in the past obviously fed this fox. Look through the slideshows and the video below. In the second set of slides, you see the fox stretch and yawn. He was in no hurry to depart.

The Muddy Buck Cafe (pics 1,2,3 below) serve excellent coffee and breakfast in Evergreen, CO. This place is happy to share their internet, and allows visitors space to read, or do some computer work all day. There are tables outside to enjoy the weather and sitting areas for reading inside. The staff could not have been nicer. If you enjoy Mountain Biking, some of the best trails are found in this area of CO. The OUTBOUND MOUNTAIN GEAR shop is an excellent bike shop in EVERGREEN, CO and the owner is extremely helpful. The Lariat Lodge is not on the main road, but had a good sandwich for lunch. Last picture in this gallery is of BIV and Quinn after their bike ride.

Video Below: One of the crazier things to do at Cave of the Winds (outside of Colorado Springs) is a cross between a zip line and a bungee jump. It was all I could do just to film this without having my stomach turn. The drop is 150 feet I realized that Quinn has really good sense because he refused to go on this ride despite encouragement from his dad.
